Having Trouble Sleeping?

Sleep apnea is a common and serious condition that affects a person’s breathing during sleep. This means that a person stops breathing numerous times while they are sleeping and their brain (and the rest of their body) may not be getting enough oxygen. Some signs that can help you identify if you suffer from sleep apnea are

  • Loud snoring,
  • Insomnia,
  •  Waking up from sleep out of breath,
  • Snorting or choking noises during your sleep, or
  •  Headaches when you wake up from a full night’s sleep

If left untreated, sleep apnea can eventually lead to irregular blood pressure, and in extreme cases lead to stroke or heart attack. It is important to seek medical help if you are suffering from this condition, and fortunately, Jacksonville Center for Prosthodontics & Implant Dentistry is here to help.

Jacksonville Center for Prosthodontics & Implant Dentistry has extensive experience helping patients combat their sleep apnea. We use a device called Thornton Adjustable Position 3 (TAP®3), which is equipment for your mouth that will help eliminate snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. TAP®3 is designed on a similar basis for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). It will allow your airway to remain open while you sleep so air can pass freely. This is because the device is designed to hold your lower jaw in a forward position, so it does not fall open while you sleep. When your lower jaw remains in place, it will prevent the tissue in your throat from collapsing and keep your airway open, so you snore less and breathe better.

TAP®3 is advanced technology, which has shown promising results among patients. In fact, it has shown to eliminate snoring in 95 percent of all patients who have utilized it and shown results of improved breathing. It is important to remember that this technology is not offered to patients who have respiratory disorders, dentures, loose teeth or any other condition that could react in a harmful way with the device.
