This patient came to our office concerned with the severe breakdown of his dentition. He had missing teeth, fractured teeth, caries, defective restorations, a clenching and bruxing habit, compromised posterior occlusal support (ability to bite on back teeth) and unsatisfactory aesthetics. A treatment plan was created to restore the teeth and address the cosmetic concerns of the patient. The first step was the fabrication of a diagnostic waxup (scale models of the proposed restorations in wax) which allowed the patient to preview the design and make sure that he was happy with the size, shape and appearance of his smile. The front teeth were restored with Empress porcelain crowns that were wider than his original teeth to fill in the spaces in his smile. The back teeth were restored with porcelain fused to metal crowns and a bridge for extra strength on the chewing surfaces.
